New teaching standard strengthens Truth and Reconciliation in the classroom

Indigenous students in British Columbia will be better supported and be more connected in school with the addition of a new professional standard that requires teachers to commit to truth, reconciliation and healing.

Makerspaces at CBESS

This year SD8 gave schools across the district special funding to beef up our Makerspaces resources. We spent $7720 on a myriad of tinkering bits and pieces. This article from Education Canada will be a good read for any parents or community members who want to know more about Makerspace.

We hope you are looking forward to the upcoming school year. We recognize that you likely have some questions about your child beginning school this September, and perhaps specifically about full-day kindergarten. This letter is to inform you of a few details regarding this.

Fresh kale enjoyed for hot lunch this week

Fresh from the school garden, staff, students and community members enjoyed spring kale in Tyler's daily salad. The kale was so tasty, our chef could not bring himself to cook it!

$401 raised at Fundraising dinner

Fundraising Chili dinner and Trades program presentation on Wednesday, March 6th raised $401 that will go towards construction of an outdoor classroom! Many thanks to Ms. Bury for her efforts in organizing the event and Brent Firkser for providing information on the Selkirk College Trades program! A big thank you to Sedona, Jesse, Kate and Luka for helping with the dinner!

Kindness Tree

A ‘Kindness Tree’ was introduced at our Pink Day Assembly and put up in the hallway. Paper leaves are available for students and staff to write down sentiments of gratitude. Each morning a few of these ‘leaves’ are read out for the morning announcements.

CBESS students bring home medals from BC's Regional Skills Competition

Six talented CBESS students took part in B.C.'s Regional skills Competitions on March 1st in Cranbrook. 

Olivia Wedge won a silver medal in carpentry. Logan Hicks won bronze in cabinet making. Way to go, Crawford Bay!
