Welcome to the new school year!
Hello Crawford Bay School Community.
It’s been wonderful to get to know your children, hear their summer stories and hear a bit about what they want to get out of their school year. It already feels like we’ve been going for a lot longer than just over 2 weeks! Lots of projects already going, new initiatives being set up and old traditions coming back. I personally want to thank the Crawford Bay community, students, and families for being so welcoming to me, our new teachers and new students.
We have just over 70 students registered this year. We have 2 primary classes, led by Ms. Conne in K/1 (also known as The Wolf Pack!) and Ms. Strom and Ms. Kristy sharing the 2/3 class. We have a 4/5 class with Ms. Newbery, a new teacher in our school. Our middle school class, grades 6/7/8 has Ms. Draper at the helm, and our secondary grades have Mr. Ivan as their main teacher, with Ms. Kristy teaching humanities.
Ms. Delport is our Inclusion teacher and counselor, as well as wearing other hats. Our support staff, Sarah, Alana, and Cathy, are back for another year, which is wonderful as I lean on them for their knowledge about Crawford Bay School, community and all the great opportunities out there for kids. You’ve all heard from Tanya, our new secretary, and we are both grateful to Shelby for making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Malena and Candy did an incredible job getting our school ready for learning. I have never worked in such a beautiful school with such rich play spaces all around.
This year our secondary students are able to take elective courses in Spanish, Philosophy and Media Production. We are looking to rebuild the mentorship program here. If you have an area of expertise that you think might be a fit for a student to learn from you on a regular basis over the winter, please reach out. We have students interested in an incredible range of things, from carpentry to Japanese Language, music, animal husbandry and more.
We’ve already had a field trip to Kokanee for some students to learn about our lake and the role the Kokanee play in our environment. We had a day of Indigenous Games for all of our learners.
